Meet Elyse Crawford, biomedical graduate program administrator

Elyse Crawford joined the Office of Biomedical Graduation Education (OBGE) in fall 2026 as a biomedical graduate program administrator supporting the PhD programs in pharmacology, molecular cancer biology, and pathology.

What was your professional role before this?

I worked for UNC as an educational programs coordinator in pediatric dentistry. I think it prepared me well for this role.

What attracted you to this role with OBGE?

I have a background in education, so I love to help people. Also, my husband is a PhD student, so I feel as if I can relate on a personal level on the complexities of getting a PhD. I love to be even a small part of that journey and help relieve that admininstrative load.

What are you most looking forward to in working with the department's graduate trainees?
I am looking forward to getting to know everyone! Everyone comes with different backgrounds and perspectives. I find that so great and interesting!

Is there a piece of advice you often share with graduate students that you'd like to briefly share here?
Take full advantage of everything and don't be afraid to ask for help. Know that everyone is here to help you succeed!
