Laura Wingler, PhD, Assistant Professor of Pharmacology and Cancer Biology, was recently awarded an NIH R01 grant from the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute entitled, "Mechanistic diversity in biased angiotensin receptor ligands."
Per Dr. Wingler, "The angiotensin receptor controls blood pressure and is the target of angiotensin receptor blockers (ARBs), which are frontline medications for high blood pressure (hypertension). This project will study differences among angiotensin receptor drugs and how their effects can be tuned. Ultimately this work could enable the development of angiotensin receptor drugs for other cardiovascular diseases and guide the development of improved drugs for related receptors."
